Wag the Dog, or Who we are when we write with AI

Writing with AI is never a single exchange but thousands of reiterations that force us to articulate what we actually think. The familiar "co-piloting" metaphor misses this; a closer model is a challenging advisership where we are sometimes the professor guiding a brilliant but rigid student, sometimes the student pushing against a rigid professor. Either way, the interaction changes us: our concepts, our assumptions, our authorial "I."
